My personal work and specialism has been heavily influenced by our professinal lecturers.
Understanding my slow gravitation towards Previs/Generalist role has been a transformative journey. Allowing to me recognise more suitable paths for my career. it has helped me understand that i can make good use of many of my skills within the animation field efficiently within the previs sector.
The industry lectures and independant research into our roles have helped solidify and clarify and give me greater confidence in my chosen specialism, and that even if I dont land an immediate role as a previs artist, i would be more than capable working at any other closely related position.
A lot of my production has been explained and described on my research page, as it is heavily related to my research.
In the fast-paced world of animation, efficiently managing time while staying creative is crucial. This Personal Learning Project (PLP) also outlines the time and work efficiency strategies I’ve developed to balance university coursework alongside my personal Maya projects, all while maintaining high-quality results.
As mentioned before, to manage these commitments, I use a structured approach with digital tools like Google Notes for mobile organization when out and about, and sticky notes for my computer, also i use Google Calendar for scheduling key events, ensuring I stay focused on deadlines and objectives. One key method I’ve previously adopted is the SMART framework—setting Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound goals. Each day, I assess which are the most immediate tasks to adress out and prioritize them each morning based on urgency and importance, while leaving room for unexpected challenges.
To boost efficiency, I break work into 30-45 minute focused sessions with short breaks. I’ve found that I work best late at night or while listening to music, so I schedule my most challenging tasks during these peak productivity times.
Mastering time management is essential in animation, and through continuous refinement and feedback, I’ve developed a system that ensures disciplined, timely, and high-quality work, all while balancing creativity with efficiency, this is a vast improvement over last year. This year i decided to try to complete work as fast as I can during lessons to i can really get a scale of the amount of time left for PLP projects. By trying to see how fast i could complete goals i managed to get roughly a month ahead of my rigging classes this semester which allowed me to allocate more time to my independant rig and create lots of custom controlls. This is essentially a extreme version of the SMART framework, which from experimenting different work methods compared to last year, this method is not perfect but has resulted in me being much more confident and clear about what tasks are ahead and resulted me in falling behind much less. And allowed a clear scedule for my personal projects.
Additionally, I maintain a clean and user-friendly website to showcase my work, following industry standards like Harvard referencing and thorough research shown to us by Olena Martynyuk during our classes.
